Re: Newbie question about the site.
So whats your point here hippydog, I'm not sure why you are dwelling on something that isn't a big deal on this site?
Have you listened to the music here? Posted in the forum? Joined one of the radio shows? So you have 3 posts here and they are all aimed at this. What's the scoop exactly?

Re: Newbie question about the site.
Hippydog, when I said there are no competitions, what I meant was organized competitions. There are sites that actually promote and give awards for "most plays", "most reviews", etc. That's the kind of thing we don't engage in.
Sure, we have charts, and we keep stats on what songs are played most. That kind of data is available, so we post it. There are a few who get a thrill out of seeing their song and their name "at #2" or whatever. They are certainly welcome to play that game, if they wish. It's just not something we promote or care about.
I have to concur with Bri-an, Kephas, and Floridamusic. Stop in to chat during a live radio show, and get to know some of the people here. Find out what we're all about. Listen to, and comment on, some of the great music on the artist pages. Ask about the musicians and their music here in the forum. Tell us more about yourself, and your connection to the music biz. It's a real community!
Enjoy! Frank

Re: Newbie question about the site.
What would you like your user name/artist name to be? I can take care of it. Welcome to the site!

Re: Newbie question about the site.
Hippy dog, I concur in everything that Frank has said. I've been on sites where there are ratings where the whole thing goes haywire by people obsessing about where they are on the charts. These ratings can always be manipulated and can lead to acrimony and disputes. I know that there are charts here, but I don't think I've ever looked at them (partly for the reason Jaug mentioned earlier ) but mainly because I've been there elsewhere and it means diddly squat. There is a great community in here without pressure. You get involved as much as you want. Bri-an's right, the radio shows are great and there's always fun in chat when they're on. An indication of my affection for this site is that in July I travelled from Australia to Atlanta to be part of the first "get together" of members. I wasn't alone as another Australian was there as well, together with a guy from the UK. That was probably one of the best experiences of my life and I hope to repeat it in 2 years time. A heck of a lot more fun that worrying about where my songs are in some meaningless chart. So come on in, the water's fine. Cheers Brian

Re: Newbie question about the site.
I hadn't forgotten you, David. I meant to say "another Australian had travelled there especially for the Meltdown". Given that you played bass in almost every set, as well as sorting out sound and video I'd be hardly likely to forget you. You were one of the few there who didn't talk funny Cheers Brian
