 Genres
Okay, I've signed up but before I get more involved I need to find out a little more. Is this site for "indie" artists as in unsigned or are you assuming that "indie" is sort of a genre? You see, I'm independent (performing and recording) but my main genre is country (and I don't mean Taylor Swift-type country). If I continue, am I going to be the only country artist here? That could get kind of lonely. Please let me know. Thanks.

 Re: Genres
Hi Dusty, and welcome to IMW. Indie, in our case, indeed means independent - unsigned, self-produced, or even small-label. As far as genres, all genres are welcomed, encouraged, and represented here. There are a few country artists on the site, and we're pleased to increase their representation.
If you click the Songs tab on the 'Artists' home page, then click 'Genres', you'll see a pretty good mix. We are actively seeking to increase our diversity in areas like country, jazz, classical, etc.
We hope you enjoy the site, and will encourage your friends to stop by, and consider joining us.
Thanks! Frank

 Re: Genres
Thanks. Guess I'll stick around for a while. Always glad to spread the country word.

 Re: Genres
Hey Dusty! Great to see you on the site, by all means invite your friends to the site as well. All genres are welcome and it would be nice to build in genres where there may be less artists.
Looking forward to hearing your music!
Walt

 Re: Genres
Genres can drive you crazy. I love Progressive rock, but most of the bands that I once thought of as "progressive" are now called "Neo" or "Intelli-rock". Far too many genres to keep track of. I swear that wasnt the case back in the 70's.
We had:
Rock (aerosmith, Beatles, CSN) Southern rock (Molly Hatchet, Skynyrd, Allman Bros) Progressive (Yes, ELP, Genesis, Kansas)
Country Old and new Pop classical Jazz
Its too wierd now.

 Re: Genres
I do too! Loved stuff from bands like Graham Central Station, tower of Power, Rufus... Real music, that was. Southern rock? oh yeah, love that stuff too. It hasnt gone away like funk has, it just kind of got folded into new country and hasnt really been able to break out of that market (whats left of it)

 Re: Genres
My definition of Southern Rock has (no less than) four guitars on stage and an extended outro solo. Think Green Grass and High Tides... Live!
