  • What about copyright and ownership?
    As a rule of thumb, as long as you own the copyright for the material you wish to use you can upload or embed your material for public performance or downloading. For a more detailed guide to copyright ownership and our terms and conditions please see the copyright page here.

  • What music and images can I upload or embed in my CP?
    We currently support HiFi MP3 (64kbps-320kbps) and images are supported in .gif, .jpeg and .png

  • How do I report inappropriate content?
    When reporting please ensure that you provide us with as much detail as possible quoting the name of the video, image or blog and including the originators name. All reports are kept completely confidential and you can report inappropriate content here: Report Inappropriate Content

  • Can I embed or upload a MP3 or image which may contain offensive or explicit material?
    As a general rule No! Please keep in mind that Indie Music Works would like the site to be appropriate even for our youngest members, so don't post anything you wouldn't want your own children viewing.

    We maintain a high level of integrity on the site and do our best to make it a positive experience for everyone. However, in the case of uploaded mp3's, all artists are advised to activate the "explicit lyrics" content in the Control Panel when creating the song so that listeners are made aware of the audio content. Please do not leave comments or blogs on the site containing fowl or inappropriate language.

    Repeated violations will lead to the termination of your account.

  • I can't see my name on some areas the site?
    Make sure you've uploaded your profile image, some areas like the Featured and Newest areas rely on an image to be uploaded. If you are experiencing issues and need some help be sure to contact the site administrator here: Technical Support

  • How do I change the colors and background on my theme?
    1. Go to your Control panel

    2. Click on "Profile"

    3. Click on "Customize Your Profile", on this screen you will see all the options for; changing colors, adding backgrounds and adjusting font size and font styles on your theme. You can preview your changes by clicking on the "Preview Changes" button.

    You can also select a preconfigured skin by clicking on "View Custon Skins", you will see a preview button next to each custom skin on the list where you can take a look at the custom skin before selecting it. It's generally easier to select one of the custom skins and then make changes to it.

    Make sure to click on the "Update Settings" button after you have completed changes to your theme or have selected one of the custom skins in order to save your changes. In the event that you do not see your changes when you go to your page, make sure to clear your browsers temporary file and cache.


  • How do I change the picture on my Artist profile?
    There are two images associated with an artist profile. The first image is the "Artist Image" and the second is the "User or Member" image.The Artist Image is the large image that shows up on your profiles main page and any other pages where artists are listed. The user image is the image that shows on the home page site activity, emails and will also show under "Members" on your artist page.

    In order to change the "Artist Image"

    1. Go to your Control Panel

    2. Click on "Profile"

    3. Click on "Profile Info" and scroll to the bottom of this page. You will see "Upload New Artist Image"

    4. Click on the "Browse" button and browse to a photo on your computer that you would like to use as an artist image on your page. Select the file on your computer and then click on "Modify Artist" and your image will be uploaded, when completed you will see "Success" in the upper left hand corner of the screen and the image will now be shown on your profile.

    If you would like to delete the image on your profile then click on checkbox next to "Delete Artist Image?" and then click on "Modify Artist" and your image will be removed and the site generic photo will replace it on your page.

    In order to change the "User or Member Image"

    1. Go to your Control Panel

    2. Click on the "Account Info" link in the top menu.

    3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see "Upload New Image". 4. Click on the "Browse" button and browse to a photo on your computer that you would like to use as a user image. Select the file on your computer and then click on "Update Settings" and your image will be uploaded, when completed you will see "Success" in the upper left hand corner of the screen and the image will be added.

Song Upload, Modify and Song Order Related Questions
  • How Do I Upload A Song? & Song Field Descriptions
    Go to your control panel click on "Songs", then click on "Create Song". Remember to click on "Add New Song" at the bottom of the page once you have added all the information to the song page.

    The song fields are as follows;

    1) Song Name: The title of the song you are uploading.

    2) Song Credits: List any credits for the track here.

    3) Existing Album: If you have uploaded other tracks a dropdown of all the album titles of existing track will appear here.

    4) New Album: Add the album name here that the track appears on if this is a new album if you have uploaded other tracks and already added an album name you would use the Existing Album dropdown in order to select the ablum title.

    5) Song Label: If the song was released under a Indie label the label name would go here.

    6) Song Genre: Select the genre the track is in from this dropdown list.

    7) Song Lyrics: If you have lyrics for your track you can place them in this text editor box. **NOTE** DO NOT COPY AND PASTE FROM MICROSOFT WORD, if you copy and paste you should copy from a text only document. Create your document in word then "Save As" a tect file (.txt) and then copy and paste.

    8) Song Information: Any information on the track, specifics on anyone that may have collaborated or anything that you would like to say about the track should be placed into this text edit box. **NOTE** DO NOT COPY AND PASTE FROM MICROSOFT WORD.

    9) Explicit Lyrics: Check this box if your song contains any explicit lyrics, this will put a visible next to the track on your page. Please be sure check this box if your track contains explicit lyrics.

    10) Hide Song: If you do not want the track to show up on your profile check this box.

    11) No Radio: Check this box if you do not want this track to be available to add to their stations.

    12) ISRC Code: If you have a International Standard Recording Code you would place it in this box.

    13) Artist License: If you have a artist license for the track the code would be placed here.

    14) Songwriters License: Any song licensing would be placed here. For more information on licensing a track for reproduction please visit The Harry Fox Agency

    15) DJ Downloads: In the "HIFI Listener Access" dropdown, select "Streaming Only + DJ Download" in order to allow only the Indie Music Works DJ's to be able to download the tracks in order for them to play your music on their shows.

    16) Upload HIFI Song File: This is where you would browse to the song file on your computer that you would like to upload. Please note that the system will automatically create a LOFI song file for you.

    17) Import HIFI Song File: If you have used the "Multiuploader" to upload several tracks this field will appear when you add or modify a song. Just click on the dropdown and select the file. In order to get to the multiuploader to upload tracks click on "Extra" in your control panel then click on "Multi-Uploader".

    18) HIFI Listener Access: Here you can set what listeners will be allowed to do with the song.

          a) Streaming Only: This option is the default setting when creating a song. With this option set listeners will be able to stream your track from start to finish.

          b) Streaming + Downloading: Select this option from the dropdown box when you would like to allow listeners to stream your entire song and you would like to make the song available for download to listeners also. If you have checked the "DJ Download" box also then this track will only be avilable to the DJ's for download but listeners will still be able to play your track on the site.

          b) Streaming Only Preview ??s: Selecting this option will only allow a predefined amount of playback of your song to listeners.

    19) Upload LOFI Song File: The LOFI song file will automatically be created from your HIFI file. You have to do nothing in this field.

    20) Import LOFI Song File: This field will normally not be used since the system will automatically create the LOFI song file from your HIFI upload.

    21) LOFI Listener Access: Set this field the same way that you set the the HIFI listener access dropdown.

    22) Upload Song Image: Browse to a local png, jpg or gif picture on your computer that you would like to use as the image for your song. This image will show up on any site pages that contain your song on Indie Music Works. The best size to use for this is 150x150 pixels, larger files will automatically be resized.

    20) Select Gallery Image: Click on "Launch Image Browser" if you want to add an image that you have used previsouly, all images previsouly uploaded will appear in the image browser. Select the picture by clicking on it in order to use it rather than uploading a new image.


  • What Is DJ Download, Steaming Only and Streaming & Download?
    Check this box along with dropdowns on "HIFI Listener Access" & "LOFI Listener Access" set to "Streaming + Downloading" in order to allow only the Indie Music Works DJ's to be able to download the tracks in order for them to play your music on their shows. Note that you will not see the track available for DJ downloads once you set this option, the only people that can see the track is available for download would be the DJ's.


  • What File Types Are Allowed?
    Currently Indie Music Works allows only mp3 uploads since most streaming players will support this file format.


  • How Many Songs Can I Upload? (Bit Rate & Sample Rate)
    All Artist accounts start with 150Mb of space, accounts are upgraded when they run low on space with the current cap set at 300Mb though we do make exceptions. Depending on the bit rate of the file (128 Kbps.. etc.) which will dictate file size. The sample rate of all files uploaded should be 44.1. You can figure out how much space you have remaining on the "Song Create" or "Song Modify" screen. There are two fields there: Maximum Combined Upload Size:XXX.XX MB & Space Left:XXX.XX MB that will tell you how much space you have available to you.

  • What is a Playlist?
    A Playlist is simply an internet radio station "radio-cast" and is similar to a PodCast, you can include any artists songs in your Playlist which have been made available to share by each artist. Each member has one Playlist available in their CP, the Playlist is embedded and viewable on every members home page.


  • How do I embed video and images from other sites?
    You can embed video and images into your blog entries by pasting the code anywhere in your blog text.

  • What is the minimum age for membership?
    The minimum age for membership is 13. We do and have made exceptions to this but only after speaking with the parent of the minor. Indie Music Works is happy to say that we are considered to be a safe site for minors and have a zero tolerence for any behavior that would be deemed inappropriate by the site staff.
